Celtic Biotech is an Irish bio-pharmaceutical company developing novel peptides for the treatment of solid tumours, with a specific focus on non-small cell lung cancer. With current treatments often falling short in efficacy, safety, and patient convenience, the Company has identified promising naturally derived receptor binding proteins, one of which, CB-24 crotoxin, it has progressed into Phase I trials using a novel intra-patient dose escalating protocol.
The drug has shown excellent safety, minimal side-effects and stabilisation of disease in several patients in Phase Ib (6 patients evaluated) multi-cancer trials. Delivered as a user friendly at-home monotherapy using infusion pumps, the patients are monitored remotely requiring visits to clinic twice weekly for dose escalation. Part funded by the European Innovation Council, Phase Ic clinical trials will commence in 2024 to identify MTD and optimum treatment protocol, with a view to commencing Phase II trials in NSCLC 2025/26, in this potentially game-changing cancer therapeutic.

AICRIstart is an all-island doctoral and post-doctoral research training programme, which will create a unique network of excellence in cancer research, as well as an exceptional training environment for emerging researchers.
The all-island eHealth Hub for Cancer is an all-island partnership on the island of Ireland that is building software and data platforms using best practice open science international health data standards to unlock and share health data, to grow clinical cancer research and improve cancer care.
CLuB is the All-Ireland Cancer Liquid Biopsies Consortium Emerging Hub of Excellence whose commitment to excellence in research and teaching brings together academic institutions, cancer researchers at all career stages, patients, policymakers and industry representatives across the Island of Ireland. In March 2022, the programme was awarded €4 million in funding under the HEA North South Research Programme.
The North-South Research Programme is a collaborative scheme arising from the Government’s Shared Island initiative. The €40 million NSRP funds allocated in July 2021 are being delivered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research Innovation and Science (DFHERIS). A further €10 million was announced by the Department of the Taoiseach in December 2022 bringing the total funding for the programme to €50 million.

Analysing and Researching Ireland North and South (ARINS) - the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) is an all-island body, founded in 1785, that brings together leading scholars and researchers from across the island of Ireland and overseas. The RIA has formed a partnership with the University of Notre Dame, through the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, which is supporting through Analysing and Researching Ireland North and South (ARINS) an all island cancer policy initiative led by Professor Deirdre Heenan (Ulster University) and Professor Mark Lawler (Queen's University Belfast).
The Ireland America Science Forum (IASF) was created in 2019 to strengthen existing and build new connections among scientists in North America and Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. By disseminating information on funding and employment opportunities, enhancing bi/multilateral partnerships through representation, promoting mentorship of Irish students and scientists in academia and industry, IASF provides a forum for discussion and representation in trans-Atlantic science activities and policy.
